After their most recent 1-0 loss against San Diego, the Cougars plan to come back and play the game they know how to play against St. Mary’s.

“We just have to regroup and be ready to go,” BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “We have this one last game and we have to finish strong.”

For BYU to finish the right way, junior forward Carlee Payne said, confidence is key.

“We have had a whole week of practice to get back at it,” Payne said. “We just want to get our confidence back up for this last conference game.”

St. Mary’s has a 10-7-2 season record going into this match, which is the school’s best record since 2001.

The Gaels are coming off their most recent 1-0 win against San Francisco — a team BYU defeated 5-1. BYU’s game against San Francisco saw goals from three different Cougars, including junior forward Colette Jepson, senior forward Jennie Marshall and junior defender Lindsi Lisonbee.

St. Mary’s win against San Francisco is the Gaels’ only win in conference play this season.

The Gaels’ top goal-scorers are midfielder Jordon Marada and forward Christina Tognettie. Marada has scored nine times this season and leads the team in goals. With eight goals, Tognettie isn’t far behind.

St. Mary’s is currently ranked ninth out of nine teams in the West Coast Conference.  This meeting will also be their last conference game.

BYU has a 10-5-3 record and is ranked fourth in the WCC behind No. 7 Santa Clara, No. 8 Pepperdine and San Diego.

BYU’s match against Santa Clara, the highest-ranked team in the WCC, ended in a tie after two periods of overtime. The games against Pepperdine and San Diego both resulted in 1-0 losses for BYU.

This will be the last game of their college careers for BYU seniors Lauren Cosby, Nicole Jackson, Megan Fereday, Jennie Marshall, McKinzie Olson and Auna Doria .
