Letter: Diversity on Campus

106

Calls to repentance without any indication of self-inclusion or humility always fall flat.

I agree with the editor that BYU is a wonderful place, but I feel the self-righteous tone in “A rising epidemic (9/8)” reflects a much more troubling and destructive aspect of our campus culture: a sense our biggest strength at BYU lies in our sameness.

The editor rightly praised the high student attendance at church, the temple, and Institute, but failed to recognize the commitment to faith of hundreds in our student body who affiliate with the reported 21 additional religions represented on campus.

My college experience has also been enhanced by the diversity of perspectives and personalities I have met in my classes and wards over the years.

I am surrounded by compassionate and bright students, professors and ward leaders and have made friends at BYU that I hope to be able to have for life.

Let’s embrace our diversity.
