The Utah Symphony joins with Broadway stars to perform compositions from the musical theater duo Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg.
The touring show “Do You Hear the People Sing: From Les Mis to Miss Saigon” will be performed on Mar. 1 and 2 at Abravanel hall. Selected compositions from Boublil and Schönberg’s musicals to be performed include “Les Misérables,” “Miss Saigon,” “Martin Guerre,” “The Pirate Queen” and “Wuthering Heights.”
Hilarie Ashton, the spokeswoman for The Utah Symphony, mentioned that the composers support the show.
“They are in town this week because they know that Utah is one of the best-selling places for their music,” she said. “They know that our community really loves their music.”
Guest artists performing with The Symphony include Terrance Mann, who played Inspector Javert in the original Broadway cast of Les Misérables, Jennifer Paz and Sarah Uriarte Berry.
Fans of the popular television series “Glee” will be pleased to hear that the performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables will be the rendition that was heard on the television show.
Ashton said the music performed will consist of several of Boublil and Schönberg’s compositions. She said there is one section that actually includes original songs that did not make the final cut of these musicals.
“The exciting thing about this performance is that their music is not always licensed to be performed,” Ashton said. “It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear their music live.”
