The BYU men’s basketball hosts the St. Mary’s Gaels as the Cougars try to extend their winning streak to seven.

Following Saturday’s blow-out win against Santa Clara, BYU owns a 14–4 overall record and a perfect 4–0 record in the West Coast Conference. The Gaels will be coming into Provo with a 13–4 overall record and a 2–1 record in conference play.

Tyler Haws earned his second WCC Player of the Week honors after averaging 24 points on 64.3 percent shooting from the field, 40 percent from beyond the arc and 90.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Although he didn’t play last season due to an LDS mission, Haws remembers last year’s loss to the Gaels and knows the Cougars must come ready to play.

“We got a lot to prove and we’re a different team,” Haws said. (St. Mary’s) is a team that will keep coming at you all night. Even if they’re down, they don’t think it’s over.”

The Cougars are looking forward to taking down the Gaels.

“We’re more fired up for this game than we have been all year for any other game,” senior forward Brandon Davies said.

BYU head coach Dave Rose is happy with the direction his team is moving in and believed Saturday’s victory over the Broncos was the best the Cougars have played for a full 40 minutes. They will need to continue their consistent play Wednesday night against a tough St. Mary’s team.

“This will be a very competitive game,” Rose sad. “St. Mary’s is a team that expects to go on the road and win. They’ve been really successful with it, and they were successful in (the Marriott Center) last year.”

As the Cougars try to continue to play a consistent 40 minutes on both ends of the floor, they will need to focus on St. Mary’s senior guard Matthew Dellavedova, who averages 17.3 points and 6.4 assists per game.

“(Dellavedova) is probably one of the best pick-and-roll point guards in the country,” Rose said. “He’s got great experience, and hopefully we can speed him up a bit.”

Wednesday’s game will be a “White-Out,” and BYU fans will come dressed in white to support the Cougars.

The game will be held at the Marriott Center on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. It can be watched live on ESPNU or ESPN3.com
