Students and faculty members gathered at the Marriott Center on April 18 for the 2017 “Light the Y” Unforum to celebrate the school year.
Living Legends, Divine Comedy, the Dunk Team, Cosmo, Ballroom Dance, FreeVerse and the Cougarettes performed. BYU a capella group FreeVerse performed Katy Perry’s “Rise” and Living Legends performed “Chacarera del Violin.” President Kevin J Worthen helped the Dunk Team make a trick shot as well.v
The audience also saw video clips of sports highlights from throughout the year. Students and faculty members accepted Brigham Awards in a separate video. The winning film of the BYU 48 hour film competition “Life of the Left” was shown during the Unforum.
President Worthen spoke and thanked the audience for their efforts to “light the y” and let the “y light you.”
“We each have some kind of talent; we need to have a way which Heavenly Father can use us to bless the world and it’s at both individual level and institutional level that President Monson says that we can each become the light of the world,” President Worthen said.
President Worthen encouraged students to look for opportunities to shed light and light others around them.
