Mika, Haws and Childs highlight All-WCC honors

Sophomore center Eric Mika and freshman guard TJ Haws were named to the 2017 All-WCC men’s basketball first team today as the conference announced its 2016-2017 awards.

Haws was also named to the 2017 All-WCC Freshman team along with forward Yoeli Childs.

Mika finished league play averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per game and is a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award.

He was also named to this year’s WCC All-Academic team with teammate Davin Guinn.

Haws averaged 15 points, three assists and three rebounds during league play and led BYU with 44 made 3-point shots.

This year he was in the WCC top 10 in 3-point field goals per game, scoring, free-throw percentage, 3-point field goal percentage and assists.

Childs averaged 10 points, eight rebounds and a block per game during league play, including a career-high 23 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks at San Francisco.

The awards are given annually based on votes from the 10 WCC head coaches. The coaches’ votes are based on players’ performances during league play only.
