WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — A Utah nonprofit organization will offer a new scholarship in honor of a 25-year-old West Valley City police officer who died in the line of duty.
The Deseret News reports that the Utah 1033 Foundation announced Tuesday that it will offer a $2,500 scholarship in honor of Cody Brotherson to the child of a Utah law enforcement officer who demonstrates excellent academic performance and leadership.
The Utah 1033 foundation offers five other scholarships in honor of fallen Utah police officers who were killed in the line of duty since 2011.
Brotherson was fatally struck by a fleeing vehicle on Nov. 6 as he was he outside his car to lay down tire-puncturing spike strips.
