Family Home and Social Sciences

  • Four BYU students won an award for their research project on the relationship of fathers and children and how the media affects that relationship. Their research included a link to studies done by the National Institutes of Health and Dove’s #RealDadMoments campaign video.

  • Students AnnaLisa Ward, Kevin Stephenson and Max Maisel researched the common mistake of diagnosing a person with anxiety with autism using the Social Responsive Scale test. Their results were presented at the Fulton Mentored Learning Conference where they won in the Phycology department. They included a video that teaches what autism really is.


Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology

  • BYU Chemical Engineering professor William Pitt recently co-authored a study on the Yntrichia Caninervis, a desert moss that can absorb water from every direction, even upside down.


David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies

  • BYU interdisciplinary humanitiesMadison Daniels’ blog is currently being featured on “BYU Stories Abroad” web page as he participates in the Parks of the World Study Abroad. He writes about his experiences while visiting national parks and various cultures around the world.

Marriott School of Management

  • BYU students were assigned to generate a viral post for a marketing class. The post that received the most views was titled “What type of donut are you based on your birth month?” This assignment was designed to help student make use of social media in marketing. The Marriott Alumni Magazine has the full story here.(BYU Marriott School Twitter)
  • BYU’s ROTC is organized under the Marriott School. These students finished their Air Force field training. (BYU Marriott School Twitter)

College of Life Sciences

  • Laura Bridgewater was appointed as a new associate dean in the College of Life Sciences. She started June 1 and works with two other associate deans.

College of Humanities

  • Alex Harper and Darrell Day, two BYU Chinese Flagship program students, will be representing the United States in a worldwide Chinese language competition. The competition, which is hosted by the Confucius Institute, requires competitors to prepare a talent and a speech. More about theses students and the competition can be found here.

College of Fine Arts and Communications

  • Danny Russon and other students created Papá, a short animation that won the Student Emmy Award for Best Music Composition. It was placed on a shortlist for the British Academy of Film and Television Art (BAFTA) Awards student competition. The music was written by Jordan Kamalu, who recently graduated from BYU.

College of Nursing

  • Nursing student Sophia Ducroisy of Orem, UT. helps a refugee understand her blood pressure reading. (XXX)

    Dr. Linda Mabey and Debbie Edmunds, two College of Nursing assistant teaching professors and seven students traveled to the North American Refugee Health Conference in Niagara Falls. While there, they sponsored a family health fair in Rochester, New York. There they conducted a blood pressure clinic and taught children hygiene and healthy habits.

  • Nursing assistant professor Dr. Neil Peterson is looking for individuals to be part of his activity tracker impact study. Participants wear an Apple Watch, Fitbit Surge, or other devices to record fitness levels and receive $10 cash for their efforts. Contact for details.

College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences

  • Scott Meek and Trevor Tuttle, both BYU geology students, won first place in the 2016 Society of Exploration Geophysicist Rocky Mountain Challenge Bowl held in Denver, Colorado. They competed against nine teams in a three-round trivia competition answering questions about geology, geophysics and the history of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Here is the full story.
  • Three professors, two from BYU and one from Texas A&M, worked together to study inequality among women throughout the world. They looked at family laws and gathered statistics, which they say could impact women’s rights for generations.

J. Reuben Clark Law School

  • The 2016 Religious Freedom Annual Review will be hosted by BYU’s International Center for Law and Religion Studies of the J. Ruben Clark Law School on July 7-8. The keynote speakers will be Elder Lance B. Wickman from the General Counsel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and UVU president Matthew S. Holland. Religious Education

  • Many BYU students have noticed four new religion courses offered at BYU. They include Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel, The Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon, Foundations of the Restoration, and The Eternal Family. Reasons for these new courses can be found here.

  • BYU professors have created video tours of historic sites for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have tours from well-known historic sites like Joseph’s log home and the Sacred Grove, to less known locations such as Tomlinson Inn and Vienna Road.

Campus News

  • Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awarded BYU University Photograph Manager Jaren Wilkey the 2016 Circle of Excellence Platinum Award. Wilkey used lighting and angles to make his photos uniquely eye-catching. You can find more information here.
