Rolling into spring

213

With spring and summer weather upon us, longboards and bikes are coming back out. These are quick means of transportation and provide enjoyable exercise. BYU policy currently prevents the use of skateboards and scooters on campus, parking lots and on-campus housing areas. These are devices that are used by many students as a mode of transportation. Although bicycles are permitted on campus, skateboards and scooters are not. There are rules regarding when it is permitted to ride a bicycle on campus, and in order to establish skateboards and scooters as acceptable transportation, they should respect these same rules. We understand there are dangers involved with these forms of transportation, but there is little difference from driving a car and no difference from riding a bicycle; this is why regulation similar to bicycles should be enforced. Also, a huge problem at BYU is the parking situation, and allowing more forms of transportation would limit the number of students needing a parking spot. As we enjoy the beautiful Utah weather, let us all do our part to advocate the use of skateboards and scooters as transport at our university.
