Police confirm two people are dead after a shooting at the University of South Carolina. Thom Berry, spokesman for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), said the deaths are the result of a “domestic situation” and appear to be a murder suicide.

The identities of the deceased individuals have not been disclosed.

A campus-wide lockdown went into effect at 1:20 p.m. Thursday after reports surfaced that shots were fired at University of South Carolina’s School of Public Health.

Students shared updates throughout the lockdown on social media. USC student Rachel Bennett shared a photo of her college classroom on Twitter, showing the students barricading themselves inside using chairs and tables.

Berry said the incident was never an “active shooter situation” but an isolated domestic issue.

Officials remain on the scene of the ongoing investigation. The public health building and surrounding streets are closed until further notice.
