Thanksgiving comes early thanks to a Utah Jazz forward

Utah Jazz forward Trevor Booker assisted six local families in a big way for this year’s Thanksgiving.

As part of his Thanksgiving Assist Program, Booker took families to Smith’s Marketplace in Bountiful, where he helped them pick out the necessary ingredients for a perfect Thanksgiving dinner.

“It’s my favorite holiday,” said Booker, speaking of Thanksgiving. “There’s always food on the table. … And I was glad to help put food on other people’s table.”

This isn’t the only way Booker has given back to the community since signing with the Jazz in July. In September of this year, he held a breakfast cereal drive called “Booker’s Breakfast Assist,” where fans met him at a local grocery store to trade boxes of cereal for autographed photos. Fans brought 140 boxes that went to underprivileged families in the Utah area.

The success of these events is only the beginning for him, as he is planning to start his official nonprofit organization in 2015. Utah Jazz fans aren’t the only ones happy with Booker’s efforts; the team management is pleased with the way Booker has jumped into the community.

“He’s worked diligently at doing the little things that we want our players to do,” Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey told a Salt Lake Tribune reporter. “He’s really rought into what we want to do, and we are really excited at how he’s embraced the community and the team.”

As the holiday season gets started this year, Utah residents and Jazz fans are impressed with Booker’s desire to give back to his newfound community.

While there is not yet a website for Booker’s nonprofit organization, you may find updates on his Facebook page.
