OREM, Utah (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol officials are sounding the alarm after four troopers or their cars were hit within the past 10 days.

Authorities say the latest crash happened at about 7 p.m. Wednesday while crews were clearing four crashes along the Interstate 15 in Orem.

Troopers say a Ford Escape was braking for slowing traffic when it rear-ended a GMC pickup and severely damaged its own steering. The Escape then careened into a UHP patrol car, narrowly missing two troopers who were investigating the accident.

UHP Colonel Danny Fuhr urged drivers to slow down when they see flashing police lights. Officials say following too closely and speed were the main contributors in the accidents.
