BYU women’s golfer Lea Garner named WCC Player of the Month

Junior BYU golfer Lea Garner was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for October last week.

She finished in the top 10 in the two tournaments that the women’s golf team played last month. The Cougars finished the October tournaments in sixth and fourth place, with Garner leading the squad with a scoring average of 71.83 in October. This is the first time she has won WCC Player of the Month.

The first tournament was the New Mexico Aggie Invitational, in which Garner shot a 69 in the first two rounds and a 72 in the third. She took fourth place at the NM Invitational. The Cougars finished with their lowest total team score of the season with a 877.

Garner shot a 69 in the first round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii, and Garner finished the tournament by shooting 221. She shot 5-over-par and finished in fourth place.

BYU women’s golf will return again next February, when it will play in the Matador Invitational in Simi Valley, California.
