Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie will start tonight against the San Francisco Giants in game 7 of the World Series. Guthrie, 35, attended BYU for his freshman year and went on his mission to Spain in 1999. After his mission, he transferred to Stanford University and went on to be drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2002.

In a press conference held before game 3 of the series, the LDS pitcher spoke of how lessons learned on his church mission prepared him for his journeyman career in the major leagues. Guthrie went on to start in game 3 and came away with a win, allowing two runs in the victory.

The Royals’ last playoff appearance came 29 years ago, when they won the World Series. Guthrie has a chance to cement himself in another piece of Royals history tonight. The game can be watched tonight on Fox at 8 p.m. (ET).
