A string of campus groping incidents may be at an end with the charging of a student, BYU Police said on Friday.
BYU student Nathan Eric Fletcher, 22, has been summoned to appear in court for two counts of sexual battery, a class-A misdemeanor.
BYU Police Lt. Arnold Lemmon said they are investigating whether Fletcher could have been responsible for more than a dozen groping incidents that have been reported on the BYU campus since January.
“We are confident that it is the same person,” he said. However, he said they are pursuing two charges against Fletcher because of the strength of the evidence in the two incidents involved.
“We got some more video, and then we had some witnesses step forward,” Lemmon said.
Lemmon said the most recent groping incident was reported in mid-March after the media coverage on the issue increased. The Universe published a story March 20 outlining the groping incidents that had been reported to that point.
Fletcher is scheduled to appear in Fourth District Court in Provo on May 1 at 8 a.m.
