Jared Colton, president of BYU Student Alumni Association, believes that the Traditions Ball is a wonderful opportunity to connect students with alumni outside of the classroom. He reinforced that it helps alumni remember and feel the spirit of the Y.

“The spirit of the Y is the unique atmosphere we have that’s not part of any other university,” Colton said.

One of the classic events that will take place is the traditional root beer float bar. Colton said that a few years ago some of the student alumni association volunteers wanted to give it a try and it was an instant success.

Elli Ott, the tradition program vice president, helped plan the event.

“It’s a fun event so we get to have fun with it,” Ott said. “It’s fun to plan things you know people will have fun with.”

The student alumni association strives to connect students to alumni through various traditional and professional events during the school year. Traditional events include hiking and lighting the Y for homecoming, the Choose to Give campaign, the BYU/UVU food drive and the senior celebration. The professional events include the etiquette dinner, the networking event and the Take a Cougar to Lunch program.

Executive vice president of student alumni Erika Nash decided to get involved with student alumni because she felt the work she does will have significant long-term effects.

The Traditions Ball is an event for students to build relationships with alumni, and alumni can remember their wonderful student days at BYU. Carrying out events that cultivate the spirit of the Y is an important responsibility of the student alumni association.

The cost of the ball is $26 per student couple and $28 per alumni couple. Dress is formal and includes anythinh from Sunday to prom dress. To register and pay for the event go to studentalumni.byu.edu.
