The No. 58 BYU men’s tennis team will open their 2013 season against in-state foes Utah State and Weber State Saturday at 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Courts.

The Cougars boast a lineup that is completely healthy and returns everyone from last year except for one player. BYU Head coach Brad Pearce is ready to finally get his team back on the court.

“This year we start out with a bang,” Pearce said in a press release. “We don’t normally play this early, but with our schedule this year, I thought it would be helpful to bump up our traditional home opening match. We’re returning every player but one this year, and everybody is healthy and ready to go.”

BYU, which went 45-5 at home last season, has an impressive all-time record against both the Aggies and Wildcats and will look to continue that streak on Saturday. The Cougars are undefeated all-time against Utah State and they own a 58-5 record against Weber State.

The Cougars will look to their three regionally ranked single players and double teams to set the tone early. Junior Patrick Kawka comes in ranked at No. 12, along with freshman John Pearce at No. 16, and sophomore Keaton Cullimore  at No. 18. Pearce and Cullimore are also ranked No. 10 in doubles, along with the No. 9 tandem of junior Travis Fillmore and sophomore Francis Sargeant.

Admission to the matches is free.
