Tuesday

J. W. Marriott Jr., executive chairman elect and chairman of the board of Marriott International Inc., will speak in the Marriott Center at 11:05 a.m. A Q-and-A session will be held at noon following his address.

Wednesday
At 3 p.m. in 238 HRCB, Dr. Sahar Qumsiyeh (a Palestinian Mormon from Bethlehem) and Natalie K Jensen (whose doctoral dissertation is about single, working, Palestinian women) will hold a Q & A session about living, researching, working and worshipping in the West Bank.

Thursday

Natalie Jensen (Augusta State University) will speak at 11 a.m. in 250 SWKT. The title of her lecture is “Domestic Diaspora?: Palestinian Women as Transnational Migrants.” Natalie is a BYU grad in history/Near Eastern Studies who lived in Ramallah for a year doing dissertation research.

Friday

The BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series, part of the L. Tom Perry Special Collections, will show “Brigham Young,” starring Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, Dean Jagger, Brian Donleavy, Jane Darwell and Vincent Price, in the library auditorium on level one. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will be shown at 7 p.m. The movie runs for 114 minutes. The event is free and open to the public.

The BYU School of Social Work will hold an information session for its master’s degree program from noon to 1 p.m. in 2198 JFSB. School representatives will cover information on how to apply to the program and answer questions on GPA requirements, deadlines, emphasis requirements, letters of recommendation, financial aid and statements of intent. Auditions for the 2012 BYU Color Guard will be held in the Cougar Marching Band Hall at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The auditions will begin at 4 p.m. and run until about 9 p.m.

In celebration of its 60-year history, the BYU College of Nursing will host nursing alumni, friends and students in a day-long event focused on “The Healer’s Art: Transforming the Future of Nursing.” The event will include distinguished speakers, a panel discussion, breakout sessions, class reunions, a service project and a celebration banquet. Elder Merrill J. Bateman, former BYU president and emeritus general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will discuss “The Healer’s Art,” which is the guiding principle of the College of Nursing. The BYU Russian Choir will peform various selections of Russian music, including sacred hymns of the Russian Orthodox Church and folk songs at 6:30 p.m. in the University Parkway Center 2nd floor chapel. Admission is free.

Saturday

The BYU Ballroom Dance Company will perform during the Ballroom in Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Marriott Center. There will also be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. With their talented dancing, colorful costumes and fascinating music, the company is considered one of the best formation ballroom dance teams in the world. Tickets will be available online through the Marriott Center Ticket Office at byutickets.com.

The Commit to Virtue 5K event is a race to raise awareness on pornography prevention and promote virtue. Head down to the Smith Fieldhouse Quad at 9 a.m. on April 7 to get involved. Registration is $14 in advance or $17 day of. Cash prizes will be awarded for the winners of each division. Guest organizations will have educational booths set up. There will be food, live music and a free T-shirt. Come show your commitment to virtue and join the race to support pornography prevention.

BYU Religious Education and the Religious Studies Center will host BYU’s annual Easter Conference from 9 a.m. to noon in the JSB auditorium, room 140. The speakers, Elder Gary J. Coleman, Andrew C. Skinner and Gaye Strathearn, will talk about the Savior, his life, his mission, the Atonement and his influence in our lives today. The conference will also feature special vocal and instrumental presentations. Attending the BYU Easter Conference is an ideal way to prepare to celebrate the Easter season. Admission is free, and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Extra

Bring blankets and friends to Helaman Field at 7:30 pm on Wednesday April 11 for the spring block party. There will be free food, including J-Dawgs, for the first 500 people, pick-up games with student athletes and a showing of “Megamind” later in the evening.

Work crews will close a portion of Heritage Drive to through traffic starting early Wednesday morning, April 4, until Tuesday, April 10. The closure is necessary to tie in the new Heritage Housing Building 7 and 8 sewer.
