City Creek Center celebrated it grand opening in Salt Lake City on Thursday. City Creek Center is just south of Temple Square.
“This has been the most anticipated event of the year,” said McKay Orton, Salt Lake resident. “This grand opening has been the talk of the town. And I’m not disappointed.”

Visitors not only enjoyed the beautiful views but also a diverse array of music from drummers and violinists to the a capella group Eclipse and famous youtube sensation and cello player Steven Sharp Nelson.

The new shops greeted shoppers with grand opening deals and free gifts. Most deals will continue into the weekend. Some stores even had customers lined up outside awaiting the opening. H&M offered gift cards of up to $300 value for the first 250 guests, some customers slept overnight camped outside the mall.

One such shopper, Corinne Larsen, said,”If I get the $300 gift card, it’s totally worth it. I think the probability is pretty high because I have been here since 7:30pm last night.”

Nordstrom also brought in the opening day with a bash- a Beauty Bash to be exact. There were over 110 beauty advisers pampering customers and sharing their tips on the latest looks.

One of the Nordstrom spokespeople, John Bailey said, “It’s going to be a party atmosphere. We will all countdown and greet the guests in a line at the front of the store right at 10am.”

The Nordstrom includes many features which are only found in few stores nationwide. One such feature is called ‘girlfriend dressing rooms.’ These are multiple rooms sectioned off with magnetic curtains so teens don’t have to jump in and out of their rooms to show their friends their attire. The store also has a diner called Sixth and Pine which features home style food and a view of Temple Square.

The mall features a retractable glass roof, a creek that runs through the property and a pedestrian skybridge. The mall is a 700,000-square-foot shopping center, forming a large part of the redevelopment of the city. It is the only regional shopping center scheduled to open in the nation this year.

“I like how modern City Creek is,” said Omar Hernandez, student at Salt Lake Community College. “You feel like you’re outside because of the technology.”

The technology friendly mall is also welcoming many new stores to the market, including BCBGMAXAZRIA, Bose, BOSS HUGO BOSS, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Cotton On, Disney Store, L’OCCITANE, Love Culture, Michael Kors, PANDORA, True Religion Brand Jeans and Tiffany & Co.

“I like the style of City Creek. I like how it has more stores. I can even get my wedding ring here!” said Angelica Rojas, student at the University of Utah.
