Police Beat: An upset spectator was arrested during BYU’s basketball game against St. Mary’s.

Suspicious activity

Jan. 26 — A suspicious vehicle was reported by the Wymount Terrace security. A police officer arrived and questioned the two individuals in the car. The driver responded she lived there once and was giving her companion a tour. The officer identified the individuals and found out they were not associated with BYU and one individual had an extensive criminal history. The officer directed them to leave the area.

Jan. 27 — A male individual was trying to enter Building 9 at Helaman Halls late at night. A student inside the building told the individual he could not open the door for him because of its policy. The individual said he just wanted to use the bathroom. When a police officer arrived, the individual already left the area and could not be found.

Jan. 28 — A student living in Helaman Halls reported a suspicious smell from outside of the dormitory. A police officer investigated the place but could not identify any particular smell. The officer asked the student if he thought the smell was from marijuana. The student said he was not sure.

Disorderly Conduct

Jan. 28 — During the BYU vs. St. Mary’s basketball game at the Marriott Center, some upset spectators began to throw objects at the referees in the game court. A male individual was arrested for throwing an object after a warning was announced. He was banned from the next basketball game. Officers said there is zero tolerant policy against spectators throwing any kinds of object onto the court.

Trespassing

Jan. 23 — A student was reported trespassing into the campus underground utility tunnels. He was issued a citation.

Jan. 28 — A male individual was caught on a security camera trespassing in LaVell Edwards Stadium. Officers soon arrived at the stadium and arrested him. He was issued a citation and released.

Sexual Assault

Jan. 21 — A male student living in on-campus housing was arrested for sexual abuse. The individual had been fondling his roommate while he was sleeping. The case was transferred to the court office.

Conflict

Jan. 24 — A family was reported for having a big argument at the Wymount Terrace. A police officer was dispatched. No crime was committed and the officer mediated the conflict.

Fraud

Jan. 26 — During its annual fund reconciliation, the BYU administration office found a discrepancy in its account over $13,000. The case is currently under investigation.

Lost Property

Jan. 28 — A student found a role of nine dollars at the Marriott Center before the basketball game began. He turned it in to BYU police.

Jan 28. A senior citizen found a $100 bill near the Marriott Center before the basketball game began. She turned it in to BYU police.

Stalking

Jan. 24 — A female student reported a male student who kept following her after she told him not to follow. A police officer arrived and escorted the female student. A no contact letter was issued to the male student. The case is still under investigation.

Traffic Stop

Jan. 27 — A vehicle was stopped by police on the East Campus Drive for expired registration. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a citation.

Missing

Jan. 30 — A 3-year-old child was reported missing at the Wilkinson Student Center in the morning. The parents found her before the officers were dispatched.
