Letter: Honorable people

92

I would like to address a couple points brought up by the authors of “Who wears short shorts? (11/1).”

First, they mentioned the Honor Code states “neither women nor men may wear shorts that go above their knee, except for exercise apparel.” That is simply wrong. Go to the Honor Code website and check it out.

Never do the Honor Code’s Dress and Grooming Standards advocate wearing shorts above the knee.

Not even for exercise apparel.

It actually says shorts, dresses and skirts are all to be knee-length or longer. No exceptions.

Second, “Several times women have been turned away from the Cannon Center for wearing shorts above their knees, but men have never been turned away.”

Authors, please be careful with extremes. Men have never been turned away? I find that hard to believe.

Perhaps no men have been turned away from what you’ve seen, but you aren’t always watching the entrance to the Cannon Center.

I have to agree with the authors on their overall point. Adherence to the Dress and Grooming Standards is pretty lax on campus among men and women.

As I said previously, not only students who attend BYU, but also students who apply to BYU agree to live by the Honor Code.

Those of us who don’t live in accordance with the Honor Code are liars. It’s pretty sad we are swayed by trends that we wear immodest clothing.

Let’s change our ways and be an honorable group of people.
