Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty appeared on Fox News’ Fox and Friends with special news to the program’s audience. The governor, who dumped his 2012 presidential bid amid ailing poll returns, announced that he would support Gov. Mitt Romney in the coming GOP primary election process.

“Fortunately, America may get a second chance: Mitt Romney is running for president, and I am proud to endorse him,” Pawlenty said in a news release featured on Romney’s campaign website. “Alone among the contenders, he possesses the unique qualifications to confront and master our severe economic predicament.”

Pawlenty is a former Minnesota governor who dropped out of the GOP nomination race last month after a poor showing in the Iowa straw poll.
This announcement may seem a bit odd to followers of presidential politics, as Pawlenty repeatedly took odds with Romney’s health care solution for the state of Massachusetts.  Pawlenty was first to coin the term “Obamneycare” in reference to the similarities between the Massachusetts health care legislation and President Obama’s health care plan for the nation. Pawlenty has seemingly forgiven Romney’s health-care legislation.

“Mitt Romney is 100 percent dedicated and committed to repealing Obamacare,” Pawlenty said in his Fox News interview Monday morning supporting Romney’s campaign.

While Pawlenty had been critical of Romney during the campaign, it is evident that the former governor intends to remain relevant in presidential politics. Speculators that might suggest that Pawlenty is positioning himself for a vice presidential bid were also addressed in Pawlenty’s Fox News interview.

“I’m not even going to consider that,” Pawlenty said Monday. “That won’t be part of the future for me.”

Romney, who is currently ranked second in most presidential primary polling, issued a statement on his campaign Facebook page.

“Great to have Tim Pawlenty on my team,” Romney said. “We’re going to get America working again.”

The two former governor’s will begin working together in the early primary state, South Carolina, where Pawlenty issued Monday’s endorsement announcement.
