BYU has taken great care to make sure the crosswalks are very diverse. If you take a closer look you will see there are in fact many women and other races represented among the crosswalk signs around campus.
Take the signs at the intersection of Campus Drive and 1060 North (near the Law Library). The designers of these signs had Bill Cosby pose as the walking man.
It just so happens they had to invert the colors to make sure it was visible, making it appear as a white man. There are a few other races represented in the same manner as well.
But where are all the women, you ask?
Well it just so happens that a bit further mortheast of Bill Cosby near the Bell Tower the crosswalks were modeled after Demi Moore in her performance of “GI Jane.”
As you can see BYU has gone through great efforts to create great diversity on our streets for pedestrians. You just need to have a slightly keener eye.
