A 44-year-old Springville man was arrested for trespassing at the Provo Temple on Thursday, Nov. 2, said a report from the Provo Police.

The report said Earl Wayne Blackham ran into the temple and was tackled and detained by temple security supervisor Larry Pate, the report said.

Blackham asked to enter the temple but was not permitted because he did not have a recommend, the report said.

Blackham had been loitering outside of the temple for one and one-half hours before attempting to get past the entrance, according to the report.

An authority at the temple said he felt the situation was not threatening.

At the request of Pate, temple patrons summoned the police, according to the report.

The police tried to get Blackham to leave the premises.

When officers approached Blackham, he began to sing hymns loudly and to call on God to help him, according to the police report.

Blackham resisted when officers tried to handcuff him. He was booked into Utah County Jail for criminal trespass and resisting arrest, according to the police report.
