Cinemark USA, Inc. will open an all-stadium seating theater in the Provo Towne Centre today, offering another theater choice for Utah County movie-goers.

Cinemark Provo is built with classic structure style and burgundy color scheme with golden trimmings. It has two big screens, each seating 288 people, and 14 smaller screens. High-back rocking lounge chairs and movable armrests are provided for audience comfort.

“We would like to bring a family experience to Provo, making Cinemark at Provo the ideal place for families to spend time together,” said Randall Hester, vice-president of marketing and communications, in a news release.

The marketing coordinator, Valerie Herzog, said the theater offers booster buddy seats for children.

The video arcade game room contains about 12 games. Two concessions sell hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and an assortment of candy. Small television screens throughout the theater’s lobby display upcoming movie trailers.

Eight screens have DTS systems, and the other eight screens are equipped with Dolby systems. Generally, one operator runs the films during afternoon and late hours and two operators are on duty for evening shows.

Cinemark Provo had a free movie promotion week to lead up to Friday’s grand opening.

Emily Kunic, manager at Carmike Wynnsong 12, said she is aware of Cinemark Provo’s free movie promotion this week.

“It’s going to take some business from here, but we’re not feeling it yet because we just opened ‘Pokemon’ this Wednesday,” Kunic said.

But Kunic said she is not too concerned with the competition.

“Going to a movie in the mall just doesn’t appeal to me. I go to the mall to shop,” Kunic said.

Wynnsong has four big screens, each seating over 260 people, and eight smaller screens.

“Cinemark is just a bigger theater to me. I’ll probably choose Cinemark just because it’s closer to my house,” said Jay Christensen, 22, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, majoring in conservation biology.

Christensen said he expected Cinemark Provo’s tickets to be more expensive because it is a new theater.

For Cinemark Provo, the adult ticket costs $6.75 and $4.50 for children and senior citizens. All shows before 6 p.m. are $4.50. For Wynnsong, the adult ticket costs $6.50 and $4.50 for children and senior citizens. All shows before 5:30 p.m. are $4.25.

Cinemark also owns Provo Movies 8 that shows second-run films.
