Springville’s 1998 Art City Days summer celebration promises to offer something for everyone–from cowboy poetry and band music to sports events, art exhibits, parades and hot-air ballon launches.

Christi Babbit, resident of Springville for 31 years and publicist for The Springville’s Art City Days, said it’s one of the greatest events of the year for Springville.

“Small festivals are represented in every city. This one especially makes our community stronger and brings a variety of events to everyone … and for free,” Babbit said.

The art fair will be Thursday through Saturday on the grounds of the Springville Art Museum, (126 E. 400 South) and will feature 18 professional artists representing all mediums of visual arts expected to showcase and sell their works.

Gary Price, a well-known and talented sculptor from Springville, has contributed much to the art image in Springville, Babbit said.

“His statues and work are located all around town … he really does an incredible job,” Babbit said. Price’s work will be displayed in the art fair.

A highlight of the Art City Days will be the performance of The 23rd Army Band of the Utah Army National Guard on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Spring Acres Arts Park.

“They are a great band and love to come to Springville,” Babbit said.

“It’s going to be a great concert. It will be outside so bring your blankets and get ready for a good time. There will even be fireworks after; plus it’s free,” Babbit said.

The Children’s Art Festival with activities for children will be Friday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Springville Museum of Art.

The General Orville Anderson Hot-Air Ballon Festival will be exciting with hot-air balloons lifting off at approximately 6 a.m. each morning on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Springville Junior High School (165 S. 700 East).

The balloon lifting is named in honor of General Orville Anderson, a Springville native who helped set a world record for the highest ascension in a balloon.

“We are the first festival of the summer usually so this is a big summer kick-off,” Babbitt said.

A carnival is set up close to the city offices bring a fun taste to the city’s atmosphere during the festival.

The Nestle 5K Road Race begins Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Pre-registration will be from 7:15-7:50 at 900 S. in front of Springville High School.

Stephanie McArthur, from Pleasant Grove is excited to run in the race this year.

“I heard there’s not as many people who run it and they have great prizes,” McArthur said. “My neighbors run it every year and love it.”

McArthur said the Art City Days really orient the races towards families. “There are a lot of divisions … for children, adults and even one with strollers.”

An antique car show, the Little Buckaroo Rodeo and an outdoor street dance for all ages are only a few more of the fun events that Art City Days are proud to host.

“It’s a lot of fun for everyone,” Babbit said.
