The blessings that flow from obedience to the law of tithing are both temporal and spiritual, said Elder Ronald E. Poelman, of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

“You and I are now among those generations given the privilege to know and to live the law of the tithe,” he said.

Elder Poelman said tithing payments can be regarded as a sacrifice. “That which we return to the Lord as tithing is indeed made sacred and the obedient are edified.”

If church members are right with the Lord when facing adversity, they can be assured blessing of faith, strength, wisdom and help from others. He said when adversity presents itself, church members can learn and grow from those experiences.

During a fireside in England, President Gordon B. Hinckley said, “I can testify concerning the law of tithing and its blessings because I have experienced them. And every man and woman in this church who is an honest tithe payer, is honest with the Lord, can testify of the divinity of that principle.”

Elder Poelman said he added his testimony of tithing to President Hinckley’s. “The blessings from living the principle of the tithe can bring peace of mind, increased faith, inspiration, and a desire to live more completely all of the commandments of our Heavenly Father.”
