Peter Breinholt seems to be a life-hardened, nomad story teller as he sings about war, heartache, wandering, loneliness, and old men in his newest release, “Heartland.”

Music buffs will remember Breinholt’s first album, “Songs About the Great Divide,” a CD full of upbeat melodies and folksy lyrics.

Keeping with tradition, Peter Breinholt and the Big Parade’s second effort, “Heartland” is definitely music Peter Breinholt style.

“Heartland’s” lyrics give the album an introspective and thoughtful feel in spite of its happy musical tone.

If you liked “Songs About the Great Divide,” an album that sold 25,000 copies locally, you’ll love “Heartland.” The album features upbeat, acoustic guitar rhythms and piano tunes that blend well with the album’s folk lyrics.

If you haven’t heard Peter Breinholt music, you are missing out on a great musical experience.

The band is just as good, if not better, live than on CD. With the release of their new album, Peter Breinholt and the Big Parade are playing several live shows over the next few weeks.

Check out the Big Parade tomorrow, April 16 at BYU’s Spring Fling at the Wilkinson Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

On April 19 at 8 p.m., the band will play at the second annual “Songwriters in the Round,” a benefit concert for the Native Children’s Foundation, an organization that supports children in northern Mexico. The benefit concert will be held at the Provo Tabernacle. Tickets at Mama’s Cafe, Downeast Outfitter, or at the door are $7.

May 18, Breinholt will play at the newly remodeled Kingsbury Hall at the University of Utah.
